Collecting art can be a toughie. There is so much available as well as understanding where to begin can be daunting if you are just embarking. I always stick by the old adage “use your gut,” as well as if you like it — truly like it — then you will want to online with it.
I grew up with art, because both my parents are painters as well as innovative types — my mother, a realist, as well as my dad paints in looser oils as well as landscapes. looking back now, I was so lucky to be surrounded by such a innovative neighborhood — all my parents’ good friends satisfied at the Ontario college of Art & Design, as well as made their collective livings in innovative fields. We always had paintings as well as drawings hung up at home, as well as my parents didn’t timid away from clashing styles of works hung next to every other. I’ve inherited a few of their pieces, however I’ve been choosy about which piece to hang where.
This is one of my dad’s pieces. I like this painting.
What I don’t have at home, though, is any type of expert photography. I was just recently at Elte right here in Toronto, on their fantastic new second floor, as well as I discovered a gallery. (Can you see me taking the picture?) YellowKorner was produced in 2006 by two friends, Alexandre de Metz as well as Paul-Antoine Briat. The YellowKorner idea is rather simple: to introduce the biggest professional photographers from around the world as well as to boost the number of copies of their work as well as make them available to as numerous collectors as possible. If you are nearby, inspect it out, or go to Yellowkorner.com.
Here’s one corner from the area at Elte.
This piece by Turkish professional photographer Ebru Sidar entitled “Dance Floor” caught my eye. Gelatin silver print. 23-1/2″ x 23-1/2″ unframed. $355.
Tell me, exactly how did you develop up your own art collection?
