At the start of this year we relocation from our old PC server to a big honkin’ NAS. now Synology have announced the successor to the award winning DS1813+, the new 1815+.
It features an all-new quad core Intel Atom C2538 2.4GHz CPU with AES-NI hardware encryption engine.
It still ships with 2GB of RAM but it’s expandable to 6GB now, up from 4GB. other changes include improved maximum frame rate capture when using the unit to record your CCTV cameras – for example 1920 x 1080p is up from a total of 300 fps to 480 fps.
The new quad core is using much more juice than the old one, power consumption is up around 10w overall in access mode, while down slightly in standby. The new unit has 4 x USB 3 sockets against the old ones 2 x USB 3 plus 4 x USB 2. Here’s a good side-by-side comparison between the features of the new 1815+ and the 1813+ it replaces. The UK RRP for the 1815+ is £774 including vat
